Arthur was buried October 24, 1918, in the American Cemetery, Souilly, Meuse (France).[1] His grave was marked with a cross, his identity tags were buried with him and his identity was also on the grave marker. His emergency contract was his wife, Mrs. Gertrude Mohan, 17 James Street, Woburn, Mass.

Several years passed. With her husband one of the war dead, Gertrude continued on. She remarried on 11 June 1919 in Boston to Andy F. Huether.[2] They were living in St. Louis, Missouri, at the time of the 1920 census.[3]

Many families of those who died in France, as well as average American citizens, weren't content to let soldiers and sailors be buried so far from home. The American government arranged the exhumation, transport, and reburial of over 7,000 such solders and military personnel. On 19 June 1921, the ship U.S.A.T. Wheaton embarked from Antwerp, Belgium. The passenger list was title "Remains of Overseas Dead." They arrived in Hoboken, New Jersey on 2 July 1921.[4]

Arthur M. Mohan, Private 1st Class, Serial No. 61281, Co. G. 101st Infantry, son, brother, husband, father, friend, returned home.

Among the commemorations of the soldiers killed in World War I, the book “The Gold Star Record of Massachusetts” was published in 1929.[5] Arthur's entry reads:
